Sticks-2-Schools On-Campus Lacrosse Program Reaches 20,000 Kids at 29 Bay Area Schools; 30 Sponsors Contribute $27,500; Stealth Player Jarett Park Named New Program Resource Director San Jose, CA January 26, 2006 TEAM Stealth announced today that 29 schools in the Greater Bay Area now have a Sticks-2-Schools program, enabling more than 20,000 children to get fit and have fun by playing lacrosse. The Sticks-2-Schools Program, funded by $27,500 in sponsorships from local businesses and private individuals, provides lacrosse sticks, balls and instruction to the physical education (P.E.) departments and after-school programs at Bay Area elementary, middle and high schools. The program was founded by TEAM Construction and Development and the San Jose Stealth (collectively known as TEAM Stealth).
Stealth Player Jarett Park, the new Sticks-2-Schools program resource director, and Stealth General Manager Johnny Mouradian have met with teachers and administrators in the Alameda Unified School District (18 schools), Campbell Union School District (five schools), Hillview Junior High School in Pittsburg, Mission San Jose High School in Fremont and Westmoor High School in Daly City. The schools received at least 24 lacrosse sticks and balls, in addition to on-going support from the Stealth and two Stealth season tickets. Next month Park will meet with teachers at Northmead Elementary School in Patterson and at Carden Day School and Vinci Park Elementary, both in San Jose.
The boxes of sticks have arrived and our P.E. department is jazzed. All 18 schools in our district will be implementing lacrosse in their curriculum. Team Stealth has been fantastic to work with and we appreciate their support in bringing this exciting sport into our program, said Alameda Unified School District P.E. Department Head Debbie Opperud.
