Sticks-2-Schools in 31 Schools; 21,000 Children Get Fit Playing Lacrosse March 15, 2006 ---- San Jose, CA ---- Sticks-2-Schools Resource Director Jarett Park reports that sticks and balls have been delivered to most all of the 29 schools in the program. As a result, an estimated 21,000 elementary school children in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area now have the opportunity to get fit while playing lacrosse. In addition to the original 29 schools in the program, this month Park also coordinated a group tutorial for two new schools in the Sticks-2-Schools program: Emma Smith Elementary School and Our Savior Lutheran School, both in Livermore, Calif. Both schools were sponsored by Bob Mezeul, a Livermore resident and lacrosse fan.
Co-founded by TEAM Construction and Development, Inc. and the San Jose Stealth, Sticks-2-Schools provides free lacrosse sticks and balls and instruction to physical education classes and after-school programs at local elementary, middle and high schools. The program is supported by sponsorships from local businesses.
Park, a defenseman with the San Jose Stealth, originally agreed to serve as Sticks-2-Schools resource director because he was “. . . looking for something I could do during the week.” Now, in addition to working with the schools’ athletic directors and physical education teachers to help implement and manage the Sticks-2-Schools program, Park coaches the Tomahawks Junior Varsity Lacrosse Team five days a week.
The San Jose Stealth, (www.sjstealth.com), a member of the National Lacrosse League (NLL), plays at HP Pavilion. TEAM Construction and Development, Inc.
