Why Lacrosse?
- Considered to be America’s first sport, lacrosse was invented by Native Americans, christened by the French and perfected by Canadians
- Lacrosse is an exhilarating, fast-paced sport that includes elements of basketball, soccer and hockey. It requires and rewards coordination and agility – not brawn. Quickness and speed are two of the most highly prized qualities in lacrosse players
- Boys and girls of all ages and athletic abilities can play lacrosse indoors or out – with no dedicated field or special structures required
- Lacrosse is the fastest-growing sport in the US and the fastest-growing sport at the NCAA level. According to the US Lacrosse Organization, in the last decade lacrosse has grown more than 500%, with nearly 200,000 registered participants.
- Sports Illustrated Journalist Alexander Wolff said, “As parents discover that lacrosse is more exciting than soccer, cheaper than ice hockey and not as dangerous as football, the game is getting a closer look.”
- S2S hopes that once kids get interested in a sport, they will continue to enjoy being active and playing lacrosse after school, in local clubs or as a school sport
“I have been thinking about joining lacrosse. Well, you guys made my decision final…Yes! It is way better than baseball! Please come again!”

“More than 50,000 children at 111 schools have participated in the S2S program. That’s quite an achievement for a young nonprofit. The advantages of being fit extend to all aspects of a child’s life and we are determined to keep physical activity a part of their school day.”
